New LED Technology That Safely Kills Bacteria

Can UV LED lights kill bacteria?

A lighting company has developed a continuous disinfection technology that uses visible light to automatically kill harmful bacteria in the air and on hard and soft surfaces. The technology prevents bacteria from repopulating.

The technology uses indigo and white LEDs to provide ambient light as well as safely kill bacteria.

The product is sold as a device that is integrated into your lighting. The bacteria killing LED lights reflect off of walls and surfaces and act in a way similar to bleach – penetrating harmful microorganisms and causing them to be inactive. The lights have been proven to kill dozens of organisms including E.coli, MRSA, and Salmonella. No word yet on how they react with coronavirus.

The technology has been installed in healthcare facilities across the nation in areas such as operating rooms, emergency departments, patient bathrooms, exam rooms, and pharmacies. With the coronavirus pandemic causing us to think about social distancing and keeping germs at bay, many industries are starting to employ these units in their facilities. They chose to set the cleaning cycle to run once employees have gone home for the day.
